Welcome to the
Adams Middle School
AVID Website
I'd like to welcome you to an exciting new program at Adams Middle School, beginning the 2008-2009 school year. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a nationally recognized, college preparatory program. Students who are accepted to participate in the AVID program are placed in highly rigorous academic classes and supported through an AVID elective where they are taught college preparatory skills that ensure they are successful in a college preparatory path.
I am looking forward to a highly successful year working with AVID students in the capacity of AVID coordinator and AVID elective teacher. I encourage you as an AVID student or parent to browse our website and become acquainted with AVID expectations and philosophy. Note the wonderful faculty members who will be teaching AVID students using AVID methodologies in their classes. I invite you to communicate with me often through e-mail with any questions, concerns, or praise concerning the AVID program.
The success of an AVID student will depend on the maintenance of an AVID binder. All Avid students will be required to keep a binder which will be checked weekly. I am asking that AVID students have binder supplies by the end of the first week of school. Please note the link to AVID class supplies on the left of this page.
AVID students are students who have already taken the first step in showing determination by applying, interviewing, and submitting writing samples in the AVID selection process. Congratulations! I have very high expectations for you this school year. You have been accepted into a very exciting college preparatory program. This will be our focus throughout the year. We will master skills that will help you succeed in a college preparatory path.
AVID student Expectations:
~ AVID students will be active participants in their learning process by mastering AVID methodologies such as;
