Dear Parents,
At Adams Middle School, we take pride in building a culture of literacy and invite you and your student(s) to join us in achieving our school’s reading goals this coming school year.
Research shows that children who do not continue reading through the summer lose a month or more of progress made during the school year. The summer is a perfect time for families to work together to promote continued reading success.
Attached you will find Hillsborough County’s summer reading list, along with information about two great new programs: myON (a web-based reading program) and Blio/Axis 360 (an e-reader app, which gives users access to hundreds of titles to download on the county’s website).
Students will have the opportunity to win prizes by doing one, or all of the following:
- Read books from the summer reading list provided and complete the attached “Event Log”
- Read books from the myON website (at www.myon.com) and complete quizzes
- Read books from the Axis 360 site (http://lms.mysdhc.org/6-12media/mssummer) and complete the downloadable form
Students will receive rewards the first week of school depending upon how many books they have read over the summer.
Parents and guardians can also refer to the Just Read, Florida! link on the Florida Department of Education’s website at http://www.justreadfamilies.org/ for more information and ideas for reading success.
We look forward to working with your child to produce a lifelong love of reading.
If you have any questions regarding any of the programs, please feel free to visit our school website at http://adams.mysdhc.org/ or call our school’s Media Center at (813) 975-7665, ext. 259.
We look forward to working with you and your student.
Sincerely,
Adams Middle School’s Reading Leadership Team
