                Course Placement
A student's course placement is determined by his or her performance on standardized tests, namely his or her FCAT NRT (Norm-Referenced Test) score.  While NRT's are the primary course placement indicator, attention is given to students' FCAT SSS (Sunshine State Standards) scores as well as their test history over the last three years.  In addition, other factors such as teacher recommendations and the student's grade history are considered as needed on a case by case basis.

*Placement in Language Arts, Geography/History, and Science Courses (all grade levels)

Reading NRT     80 and above  Honors
                        50-79    Advanced
                        49 and below  Regular

In grade 6, students scoring below the 20th percentile in reading will be placed in Intensive Language Arts and Reading.  In grades 7 and 8, students scoring below the 20th percentile on FCAT NRT reading and/or Level 1 on FCAT SSS reading will be placed in an Intensive 100-minute Reading class in lieu of elective courses.  In grades 7 and 8, students scoring between the 20th and 49th percentiles on FCAT NRT reading will be placed in a 50-minute reading class in lieu of one elective class.

*Placement in Math Courses (all grade levels)

Math NRT                80 and above  Honors
